Sponsor an Orphan Project Supervisor
The role of project supervisor is an important one, involved the full responsibility for the entire orphan sponsorship program, including two local staff, visiting short term volunteers, international sponsors, and of course the over fifty orphans.
Skills required for the position include basic accounting, excellent communication both written and oral, and an empathy with children. Teaching, management, financial or health care experience would be an advantage.
Please note that there is no orphanage in Belo, the children live in the community with relatives.
Sponsorship money is used for supplementary food, medical care, education costs, and other items.

Volunteer Eye Caregiver position
In October 2005, a small BERUDEP Eye Clinic was begun by Volunteer Eye Specialist Margaret Eisenberg, from the U.S.A. Margaret remained in Cameroon until October 2006. BERUDEP hopes to continue offering quality Eye Clinic services to the needy populations of its local communities. Thus, BERUDEP needs your volunteer assistance! While in Cameroon, you will be able to design your own schedule and patient-load as you see fit. For example, Margaret held Eye Clinics three days weekly at local BERUDEP offices in three towns. Every month or two she also hiked to rural villages where she held three-day eye clinics. The consultations are provided free of charge and patients are asked to pay for their medications and eye glasses.
Margaret has trained several BERUDEP staff in very simple skills including checking pupils, checking vision, and selecting reading glasses, so these staff can assist in the clinic. She has also written a simple BERUDEP clinic handbook for future volunteers, describing the current clinic structure and logistics such as local shops at which to find supplies, medicines, glasses etc. This will serve as a guide and reference during your stay, as needed.
For your volunteer stay, BERUDEP will provide the clinic rooms and some very simple equipment (magnifying glass, torch/flashlight, simple refracting lenses, and a few other basic items). If you have more advanced or specific instruments such as an ophthalmoscope, tonometer, or pen light, please bring them with you. You will also need to bring or purchase in Cameroon regularly-used items such as latex gloves, disinfecting alcohol, etc. You may want to bring your own eye medications for convenience, though many can be purchased in Cameroon. Bringing used eye glasses can be useful too.
