BERUDEP is an exciting place to be right now...
The Union Bank of Cameroon, displayed generosity of spirit last month with a special fee waiver for foreigners using their bank to sponsor an orphan through BERUDEPs trial orphan project. The orphans photographed here are all in line to receive funding to send them to school, receive adequate clothing and participate in extra curricular educational programmes such as sports. This is providing they can find sponsors and that the logistics of getting funds to the rural North West can be achieved. Thanks to the Union Bank of Cameroon Orphan Sponsors can be assured that the money they send, will get to their special child.
The first public walk in Cameroon has been built by BERUDEP! And it is complete with descriptive signs about the historical and cultural significance of the various places, buildings and natural resources. Helping to educate both the local population as well as tourists, the signs and the organised walk are one more reason to get out to Cameroon and experience the hospitality the people of Cameroon have to offer. Inspirational attempts to provide education despite the odds
The students of Belo, home of BERUDEP headquarters are lucky to be currently benefiting from the teaching skills of several teachers who have volunteered their help in the overcrowded and under resourced class rooms of Cameroon. One of the schools in the area is the Kitchu School which has been included in the route for the Belo Public tourist walk. Kitchu School is for children who are deaf and dumb bit also for children without disabilities who benefit from learning to sign and other unique features the school has to offer. Kitchu is run by Susan Jam who herself looks after several homeless children and her own family while working tirelessly to keep the school resourced. From classrooms that keep the weather out through to raising funds, recruiting teachers and seeking teaching resources to conduct classes, it is a constant struggle to keep private schools running without the help of the government. Kitchu school is an inspirational example of how much can be achieved through sheer determination and it is going from strength to strength and providing a service to children with disabilities whose alternative would be to stay home. Check out the website of the school. If you are interested in teaching or helping out with administration duties of a school like Kitchu check out what's available here
